HAMPSTEAD, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - A Maryland National Guard soldier was killed in a fatal crash Tuesday near Camp Fretterd in Reisterstown, officials say.
Staff Sgt. Dinora A Flores, 33, of Damascus, was stopped in the left turn lane at around 7 a.m. on northbound Route 30 when she was rear-ended by a flatbed truck, which pushed her into an oncoming tractor-trailer that was traveling southbound through the intersection, according to officials.
Flores was transported to the hospital where she later died.
Officials say Flores joined the Maryland National Guard in 2009. She worked as a full-time supply non-commissioned officer for the Recruiting and Retention Battalion at Camp Fretterd.
Governor Larry Hogan ordered flags to fly at half-staff in Flores’ honor until the day she is laid to rest.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Flores family at this most difficult time," said Maj. Gen. Linda L. Singh the adjutant general of Maryland. "The loss of one of our own is always very difficult, and little can be said to ease the pain, but we must remember Staff Sgt. Flores' dedication to our nation and state and honor her service."
