Heat wave comes to an end with much cooler temperatures Tuesday; showers expected into afternoon

After a stretch of scorching hot days the heat wave has finally come to an end Tuesday. Much cooler temperatures with highs around 78 degrees are expected in the D.C. region.

FOX 5's Tucker Barnes says showers are in the forecast for the morning and into the early afternoon hours. Overnight lows will drop back into the 50s and 60s making for much more comfortable conditions.

A beautiful week is ahead with mostly sunny skies and highs near 83 degrees on Wednesday. A sunny and warm Thursday and Friday with highs near the mid to upper 80s. The weekend looks close to perfect with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 80s near 90 degrees.
