Government shutdown deals and freebies at DC area restaurants, bars and more

Many federal employees are staying home this week, but D.C. area bars, restaurants and more are here to help. Deals and freebies are being offered around town for those impacted by the government shutdown.

Here's a list of bars and restaurants offering deals and freebies for federal workers during the shutdown:

SUGAR SHACK
Federal workers get a free coffee with any purchase for the duration of the government shutdown! Here's where to find them.

Z-BURGER TENLEY DC
If you're furloughed because of the shutdown, just show your government ID and receive a free burger on Monday, January 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Z-Burger gave away burgers during the last shutdown in 2013 as well. One burger per person, and the offer is only valid at the Tenleytown location.

CARMINE'S
All federal workers get happy hour deals all day long, plus an extra jumbo meatball. Just show your federal ID.

CAPITOL LOUNGE
The Pennsylvania Avenue institution is offering anyone with a federal employee ID the chance to grab one of its "Shutdown Cocktails" for only $5. The deal started at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, one minute after government shutdown began.

The drink specials will be offered every day of the week during the shutdown, and the menu is as follows:

To Flake or Not to Flake?
Vodka martini, extra filthy dirty

Rand's Neighborhood Affair
Champagne Brut, Peach Schnapps, cranberry, grass clippings

C'Mon Chuck
Woodchuck Cider, Fireball. Nancy's favorite.

Have You Ever Met a Haitian?
Banana Bacardi Rum, pineapple-cranberry soda, guilt.

Pornstar Punch
Stormy Jack Daniels, fruit punch, soda, served on an NDA.

Durbin Soda
Kentucky Dale's Bourbon, soda, snitch sauce.

Affordable Beer Act
Natty Boh can and a shot of Montezuma Blue Tequila. Yes.

ROOFERS UNION
More shutdown-themed cocktails are in store at Roofers Union in Adams Morgan. The "Trumpty Dumpty Sat On A Wall" (mezcal, agave, grapefruit bitters, Jerry Thomas bitters, lemon) and "Orange Toddler" (gin, carrot juice, velvet falernum, ginger, lemon) are half-off the normal $12 price beginning Monday evening, making them $6, and they'll stay that way through the shutdown. The best part? These deals are for everyone... whether you're a government employee or not. Cheers to that!

FREE HOOPS! HOYAS HOST DEPAUL
The Georgetown Hoyas say the government might be closed, but they're open-- and they're inviting all federal employees to receive two free tickets to the Hoyas game vs. DePaul on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena. Just show a valid federal ID at Window 5 of the Capital One Arena Box Office. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
