Good Samaritan witnesses shooting, jumps in to aid victim

Police are looking for suspects and a motive in a shooting in Prince George's County Thursday morning.

It all unfolded in the Kentland community in front of a Good Samaritan who jumped into action to help the victim.

Bobby Burwell looked shocked after coming upon the violent scene. He was loading musical instruments into his car after leading a class at a nearby daycare. Then he saw a man being chased and shot in the 6700 block of Vermont Court.

"Apparently there was a gentleman who was running and there were two other people behind him who I did not see and I heard five shots fired and he went down," Burwell told us.

The victim was shot multiple times in the lower body. Burwell put pressure on his wounds and recorded the scene hoping it will end up being a deterrent for future violence.

"I knew to apply pressure to the wound," said Burwell. "When I opened it, the wound was pretty bad."

The shooting was just one block from a daycare center. It is in the basement of the building at the end of the block. Children were inside at the time, but residents were shaken.

Burwell said he is just glad he was there to help the young man and is now spreading the message that this kind of violence needs to end.

"We hate to see things like this happen," said Burwell. "I don't have a political message about gun control, but I do have a message about people. If we see someone that we can help, we should."

The victim is expected to survive the shooting.
