Food truck driver charged with involuntary manslaughter in fatal Leesburg bus crash

A grand jury has indicted a food truck operator on charges including involuntary manslaughter following a crash that killed a northern Virginia mother.

Tony Dane was driving the Dane's Great American Hamburger truck Sept. 8 when it crashed into an Audi carrying a family of five near Leesburg. The Audi driver, 39-year-old Erin Kaplan of Ashburn, was killed. Kaplan's mother and three children were injured.

Dane is also a conservative political operative who was charged last year in Nevada with trying to extort a state lawmaker into changing his vote for Assembly speaker.

In Loudoun County, he's charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving without a license and reckless driving for operating the food truck, actually a converted a school bus, without proper brakes.

Phone messages for Dane were not returned Monday.
