Fairfax County police release sketch of Reston suspect wanted in abduction, attempted sexual assault

Investigators have released a sketch of a suspect they said dragged a 22-year-old woman into a wooded area in Fairfax County and attempted to sexually assault her Monday afternoon.

Officers said the abduction happened in the 12000 block of North Shore Drive near the Tall Oaks Village Center in Reston, Virginia, at about 2:30 p.m.

Investigators said a man approached a 22-year-old woman who was walking on the sidewalk, dragged her into a wooded area and attempted to remove her pants. The suspect was scared off when neighbors heard the woman screaming for help, according to police.

Police were out canvassing the area again as recently as Wednesday searching for clues and hoping to talk to witnesses.

"We want our officers in the area so they're able to talk to folks in the community," Officer Michael Crutchman with the Fairfax County Police Department said. "It allows for the community policing aspect of our job to really get out there and speak with people who are potential witnesses to the case."

Detectives described the suspect as a man between the ages of 20 and 30 with a beard and stalky build. He was last seen wearing a red baseball cap and leaving the area in a silver or gray four-door vehicle, according to officials.
