Fairfax County police identify 75-year-old pedestrian struck and killed in McLean

Fairfax County Police have released the identity of a 75-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in McLean.

They say Philip John Dietz was trying to cross Dolley Madison Boulevard around 9:55 p.m. when he was hit by a 2002 BMW.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Dietz was using a marked crosswalk with the pedestrian signal when the vehicle struck him.

They do not believe speed or alcohol contributed to the crash.

The driver remained at the scene and was taken to a hospital.

Police do not believe the driver's injuries are life threatening.

They say the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney will review the case after the investigation is complete.
