Capital Pride weekend: What you need to know to get around DC

It's Capital Pride weekend in D.C. and there's no shortage of events to choose from-- but wherever you go, you've got to get there. There will be a number of road closures for the Pride Parade (Saturday), the Equality March and the Pride Festival (Sunday). Here's a breakdown to help you navigate the city flawlessly. According to the D.C. Police Department, here are the street closures that will take effect this weekend:

Saturday, June 10, 2017 starting at 5:00pm

- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between Constitution Avenue and 3rd Street, NW
- 3rd Street, NW between Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive, NW

Saturday, June 10, 2017 starting at 7:00pm

- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 7th and 3rd Streets, NW
- 3rd Street, NW between Constitution Avenue and Madison Drive, NW
- 4th Street, NW between Madison Drive and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
- 6th St NW between Constitution Avenue and C Street, NW (allowing access to garage)
- Constitution Avenue, NW between 7th and 3rd Streets, NW (with access lane for Smithsonian / National Gallery employees)

Streets will reopen to traffic approximately 2:00 am on Monday, June 12, 2017

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

Road closures during the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday:

Assembly Area

The Capital Pride Parade will stage at the following locations and will be closed from 1:00 pm to 7:30 pm:

- 23rd Street, Northwest between N Street and Q Street
- 22nd Street, Northwest between N Street and Q Street
- N Street, Northwest between 21st Street and 23rd Street
- Newport Street, Northwest between 21st Street and 22nd Street
- O Street, Northwest between 21st Street and 22nd Street
- Q Street, Northwest between 23rd Street and Massachusetts Avenue, NW

Parade Route

The parade will start at 4:30pm and will form at 22nd Street and P Street, NW and will proceed over the following route:

- East on P Street to Dupont Circle
- Northeast around Dupont Circle to New Hampshire Avenue
- Northeast on New Hampshire Avenue to R Street
- East on R Street to 17th Street
- South on 17th Street to P Street
- East on P Street to 14th Street
- North on 14th Street to T Street where they will disband.

Road closure for the Capital Pride Block Party:

On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the following closure will be in effect for the 2017 Capital Pride Block Party.

The following street will be closed from 12:00 pm until 12:00 am.

- 15th Street, NW from P Street, NW to Church Street, NW

Road closures for the Purple Stride 5K Walk/Run:

The following streets will be closed for set up on Friday, June 9, 2017 from 7:00pm through Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 2:00pm:

- Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 12th Street to 14th Street
- 13th Street, NW from Pennsylvania Avenue to E Street, NW

The following street closures will occur on Saturday June 10, 2017 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am:

- 12th Street from E Street, NW to Constitution Avenue, NW
- 11th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Road closures for the Equality March for Unity and Pride on Sunday:

On Sunday, June 11, 2017, the Equality March for Unity and Pride will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration.

Early Street Closures

The following streets will be closed from 7:30am to 2:00pm.

- I Street NW from 14th Street to 17th Street NW

Street Closures

The following streets will be closed from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

- 17th Street NW from Constitution Avenue NW to K Street NW
- Pennsylvania Avenue NW from 18th Street NW to 14th Street NW
- 15th Street NW from H Street NW to Constitution Avenue NW
- Constitution Avenue NW from 17th Street NW to 6th Street NW
- 7th Street NW from Pennsylvania Avenue NW to Jefferson Drive SW

4:30pm: Dupont Circle between P - New Hampshire Ave
4:45pm: New Hampshire Ave to R Street to 17th to P Street

Metro to run near-normal service for Capital Pride Weekend

Metro announced that the rail system will operate largely free of scheduled track work over Capital Pride Weekend, June 10-11, 2017. The only exception will be ongoing SafeTrack work at five Orange Line stations between New Carrollton and Minnesota Ave.

Trains on all lines will operate at regular weekend intervals, departing endpoint stations every 12 minutes on Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sunday. At stations served by multiple lines in Downtown DC, trains will arrive every 4-7 minutes. In addition, Red Line service will run more frequently between Grosvenor and Silver Spring stations during daytime hours.

- Red Line: Regular weekend intervals
- Orange Line: Regular weekend intervals between Vienna & Largo
- Silver Line: Regular weekend intervals between Wiehle-Reston & Stadium-Armory
- Blue Line: Regular weekend intervals between Franconia-Springfield & Largo
- Green Line: Regular weekend intervals
- Yellow Line: Regular weekend intervals between Huntington & Fort Totten

The Capital Pride Parade on Saturday and Capital Pride Festival on Sunday are each expected to draw hundreds of thousands of attendees, including many out-of-town guests.

Metro will continue to advance maintenance work during the late evening and overnight hours on June 10 and 11.
