DC police officer rescues abandoned pit bull found tied to fence

D.C. police say an officer helped rescue an abandoned dog found tied to a fence.

Police say Officer Jesus Perez was on patrol Monday in the Third District when he located the pit bull scared and shaking. The dog had apparently nearly bit through the collar it was tethered to.

Police posted video on its Twitter page showing the officer feeding the dog chicken nuggets as they waited for animal control to arrive.

"He's well mannered," said Officer Perez in the video. "He's not snatching the food out of my hands."

Although another D.C. police officer was hoping to adopt the pit bull, the pet is in the process of being returned to its owner, according to Matt Williams of the Humane Rescue Alliance.
