DC Police destroy illegal ATVs

The D.C. Police Department destroyed dozens of ATVs and dirt bikes after they were seized for being driven illegally in the city.

Officials destroyed 62 off-road vehicles at a contractor's lot in Capitol Heights, Maryland on Saturday. They produced over 14,000 pounds of recyclable material, according to police.

"We hope those who illegally and recklessly operate these vehicles will see this as a symbolic gesture that this type of behavior won't be tolerated in the District of Columbia," said Police Chief Peter Newsham.

Police say the vehicles had either been abandoned in public spaces or seized for illegal operation.
