DC federal offices closed for snow amid government shutdown

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - While the snow day closure is happening during a government shutdown, OPM says the announcement does not apply to furloughed employees.

Essential employees who have been reporting to work during the shutdown will follow the operating status announcement, except any time in a non-work status will be considered to be furlough time.

Employees who are looking for more information can go to the Office of Personnel Management website to confirm their status.

Walter Reed Medical Center said it is open for emergency and inpatient services only. All outpatient clinic appointments and elective surgeries are now canceled. Clinic staff will contact patients to reschedule as soon as possible.
