DC area hospitals welcome first babies born in 2018

While we are barely into the new year, 2018 has already been especially joyous for some people welcoming new additions into the world.

At Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center in Maryland, a Germantown family welcomed a 7-pound, 6-ounce healthy baby girl at 12:03 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2018.

She is one of the first babies born in the D.C. area in this new year.

"Each baby born at Shady Grove is special to us, but we're particularly excited to welcome the first baby of 2018," said Kathy Dallas, director of Women's and Children Services at the hospital. "We look forward to adding many more babies to our Shady Grove family this year."

The hospital also provided some special gifts to the growing family - a large basket filled with toys, books, clothing and other essential baby items.

Several hours later at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Diana Phillips gave birth to Dima Jonathan Phillips (pictured above) at 3:21 a.m. The baby boy arrived weighing 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. He is the first 2018 baby born at this Washington D.C. hospital.

Meanwhile, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said its first baby in 2018 was born at 4:05 a.m. Monday.
