Crews remove cars from garage as firefighters continue to extinguish DC warehouse fire

A huge warehouse fire has taken days to extinguish, as DC fire crews continue to douse the smoldering remains, officials say.

On Friday, DC Fire says a contractor was called in to remove several vehicles from the warehouse's rooftop parking deck.

The fire was reported around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a large, two-story structure on the 6500 block of Chillum Place. When firefighters arrived Wednesday heavy smoke and fire had engulfed the District Properties Luxury Home Builders business at the location.

The fire, which began on Wednesday impacted service on nearby Red Line Metro rail and has taken dozens of firefighters to control.

Investigators say they will conduct a final extinguishment and search for a cause for the fire when the structure is safely demolished.

One firefighter was treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
