Celebrating Sue Palka's 30th anniversary at FOX 5!

WASHINGTON - From blizzards to hurricanes to tornadoes, Sue Palka has covered all there is to see when it comes to weather in the D.C. area. It has all flown by so fast, but this week, we are celebrating her 30th anniversary here at FOX 5!

Back in 1985, Sue joined the FOX 5 team after a short stint in Richmond and she has been a joy to be around during her three decades here.

During our 5 p.m. newscast on Wednesday, we surprised her with some cake and relived some of her different weather moments (and hairstyles) over the years.

We asked her what kind of storms are her favorites to cover here.

"I would say it's usually snowstorms," Sue said. "Although personally, I do love tropical weather because we have a chance to analyze it and watch it coming."

Sue told us how she will always be amazed by how much trouble snow can cause for the D.C. region.

"I think we have fun with the snowstorms, and to my very last day on the air, I will never forget how D.C. shuts down during snow, which I heard about as a kid because my aunt lived here and I lived in Erie, Pennsylvania, which gets about 125 inches a year," she said. "And they would say you would be surprised they will close schools for two inches in D.C., and I said, 'Oh, come on!'"

As the kind of person she always is, Sue was humble about celebrating her 30th anniversary.

"I purposely didn't want to say anything because it was such a wonderful thing everyone did for me [for her 25th anniversary]," said Sue. "I thought you just don't hog these great anniversaries."
