Brush fire breaks out, impacts traffic on Baltimore-Washington Parkway

A fire has been contained, according to Prince George's County fire, after a brush fire broke out along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway on Sunday.

Prince George's County Fire officials say crews are still extinguishing hot spots, but no structures were damaged and no one was injured.

Fire officials say an apparatus continues to occupy the right-hand lane and shoulder of the BW Parkways, southbound and one lane moves slowly.

Crews were battling the fire along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway at Powder Mill Road near the Beltsville and Laurel area.

Additional firefighters assisted, including Anne Arundel County Fire, as the brush fire had been spreading rapidly according to officials. US Park Police and Prince George's County fire used water tankers and several engines and brush units to control the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to officials.
