17-year-old shot near Ballou High School, DC police say

A teenager was shot near Ballou High School in the District on Thursday, according to officials.

DC police said the 17-year-old male was shot in the street on the 3200 block of 4th Street, Southeast near the high school at about 3:45 p.m.

Officials said the victim, who was a student at Ballou High School, was involved in an argument with the suspect before the shooting. The victim was shot in the stomach and rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to police.

Authorities said they were searching for two men who fled the scene in a black Toyota Corolla.

Classes were already dismissed and no lockdown of the school was needed, officials said.

Investigators were attempting to recover surveillance video from a nearby Metro bus to see if it captured the shooting or the suspect car.

"At this point, we are looking for anyone in the area who may have observed individuals in the area occupying a black vehicle, we're unsure if it's two-door or four-door, with dark windows and occupied by at least two males," Metropolitan Police Department Assistant Chief Robert Contee said.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call (202) 727-9099.
