Body recovered from Patuxent River after drowning; 2 other near-drownings in Montgomery Co.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - Rescue search crews in Maryland have recovered a body in the Patuxent River Tuesday evening.

Rescue teams from Montgomery County, Howard County and Maryland Natural Resources Police began a search after a report of a possible drowning at the Rocky Gorge reservoir at the Howard and Montgomery County line. Authorities would recover the body of a 21-year-old person from the reservoir about an hour after the search was started.

A Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson says a group of people were swimming in the area when one person did not resurface.

Fire officials also say there were two other near drownings in Montgomery County. At around 6:15 p.m., a 5-year-old boy swimming in a community pool on February Circle in the White Oak area of Silver Spring was spotted face down by a lifeguard who would pull him out and perform life-saving measures on the child. First responders arrived and continued the resuscitation efforts. The boy was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

About 15 minutes later, a woman in her early 20s suffering from cardiac arrest was pulled out from the bottom of a pool at a house on Corral Drive in Potomac. She was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

"I think it's just human nature that folks will assemble around water to cool off and all that, so even more reason for all of us that are caregivers and providers to keep an eye on, especially young children," said Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer. "But anytime anyone is near water, use extreme care and keep an eye out, especially young kids."

All three incidents are under investigation.
