WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - A man is dead after a fire at an apartment building in Southeast D.C.
The fire was reported around 8:30 a.m. Monday in the 4700 block of Benning Road.
Officials say the man, later identified as Reginald Beckham, 72, was removed from the top floor apartment and transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities say they are still working to determine a cause for the fire and if smoke detectors were present and operational. A cat was found dead inside the apartment.
