Arlington man arrested for sexually assaulting woman in her apartment

Police said they have arrested an Arlington man believed to be responsible for sexually assaulting a woman after breaking into her apartment during the early morning hours.

Anibal Rodriguez Castellanos has been charged with attempted rape and nighttime burglary.

The 36-year-old man is accused of entering the victim's apartment in the 3900 block of 4th Street N at around 2 a.m. last Sunday. Police said once he was inside, he sexually assaulted the 28-year-old woman in her bedroom while threatening her with a knife.

During the attack, the victim was able to lock herself in the bathroom with her iPad and yell for help. She also contacted other people through her iPad. The suspect then fled the apartment building on foot and was observed by a neighbor leaving the scene, police said.

Castellanos was identified as a suspect after witness interviews and evidence collected during the investigation, according to police.

He is being held without bond at the Arlington County Detention Facility.
