Arlington County police investigating thefts believed connected to online cleaning company

There have been a string of burglaries connected to an online cleaning company in Arlington.

Arlington County police are investigating four thefts that appear to be connected with an online cleaning company.

The cleaning company has not been identified, but police are warning families about the recent thefts.

"The Arlington County Police Department has seen an increase in thefts in homes from people using cleaning companies," said Arlington County Police Department spokesperson Ashley Savage. "These are online cleaning companies that people are scheduling these services with, and what we're finding is that people are leaving their keys for them, not actually meeting the person that is doing the home cleaning. And when they come home, they are finding that their home has been the subject of a theft."

Police released a public service announcement with things to consider before allowing any service provider into your home.

- Consider how long the company has been in business and get recommendations from friends and family.

- Does the company have permits and licenses within the county or state?

- Have someone in the home when the service is being provided.

- Hide any valuable items.

If you believe you have been the victim of a theft after hiring a cleaning service, you are advised to reach out to the Arlington County Police Department.
