Police identify 4-year-old girl, 51-year-old man who drowned in Anne Arundel County pool

A young child and a man who drowned in a pool at a home in Severna Park Thursday afternoon, have been identified.

Anne Arundel County fire officials say 4-year-old, Aryannah Wooten, and her 51-year-old grandfather, Lemuel Kane, were at a neighbors pool on Jamar Drive with other children at about 1:30 p.m.

Firefighters say Aryannah, who could not swim, jumped into the deep end of the pool. Minutes went by before someone noticed the child in the pool, according to officials.

Her grandfather, who also could not swim, jumped into the pool to help her, officials said.

The fire department said the other children ran across the street to alert a neighbor who attempted to get the victims out of the pool but couldn't pull them out.

The neighbor called 911 and crews rushed to the scene and pull the victims out. Aryannah and Lemuel were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
