New charges filed against Deonte Carraway in child pornography case

- New charges were announced Monday in the case of a Prince George's County school volunteer accused of making child pornography. A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Deonte Carraway, charging him with 13 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor to produce child pornography, court documents released Monday said.

The new charges involve 11 minor victims, who range in age from 9 to 12 years old. The indictment replaces the criminal complaint filed last week, which included eight counts involving six victims.

The 13-count indictment says that from from October 11, 2015 through February 1, 2016, Carraway coerced and persuaded multiple children to engage in sexually explicit conduct in order to produce videos of those actions.  According to the indictment, the images produced include Carraway engaging in sexual activity with victims, as well as the victims engaging in sexually explicit conduct at Carraway’s direction.

Carraway worked as a teacher's assistant Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School, where he allegedly met several of the victims. Court documents say he recruited other victims from his choir group.

carraway was arrested on February 4 and remains detained on related state charges. He faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 15 years in prison, and a maximum of 30 years in prison followed by up to lifetime of supervised release for each of the 13 counts of production of child pornography. He is schedule to appear in U.S. District Court on Friday, March 4 at 2 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing and investigators are asking anyone with information about possible victims or details about Mr. Carraway to call 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324).
