92-year-old man charged with reckless driving after 1 killed, another struck in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Alexandria Police have charged a 92-year-old man who they say struck two men while driving in Old Town Alexandria, killing one.

The department said in a news release Wednesday that Leonard Wainstein of Fairfax has been charged with two counts of reckless driving.

Alexandria Deputy Police Chief David Hulcher tells local media that the incident occurred about 10 a.m. Tuesday. The man was attempting to park in a bank parking lot when he struck a parking attendant, then accelerated forward, hitting and killing a maintenance worker.

The deceased man has been identified as 44-year-old Jeremais Herrera Rodriguez of Alexandria. The parking attendant had only minor injuries.

Contacted by phone, Wainstein said he didn't have time to comment.
