911 calls released in deadly Hyattsville crash

For the first time, we are hearing the frantic calls for help after a deadly crash involving a church van in Hyattsville.

The 911 calls take us right back to around 5 p.m. Sunday when police say a white pickup truck driving on Chillum Road hit a Cadillac and kept going with one of its tires on fire. Moments later, the truck collided head-on into a church van.

The man driving the truck, three people in the van and an unborn baby were killed. More than a dozen others were injured.

The following is a transcription of one of the 911 calls:

911 CALLER: I think they might have been able to pull… Oh my God! There's little babies.

OPERATOR: What's going on?

911 CALLER: It's babies. It's a whole van full of kids. My husband is helping to pull these babies out.

Police have identified the driver of the pickup as Medardo Flores, a 30-year-old from Hyattsville. He had previous run-ins with police, including a hit-and-run charge.
