CHEVY CHASE, Md. (AP) -- Police in a Washington suburb say a group of robbers assaulted two store employees and made off with up to $30,000 in Gucci items.

Citing a Montgomery County police release, news outlets report that two suspects entered the Gucci section of the Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase on Tuesday morning and assaulted a man and woman working there. Five suspects then joined them in stealing merchandise from display cases.

The suspects fled in two passenger vehicles and were last seen entering the District of Columbia.

No injuries to the employees were reported. Police described the theft as a strong-arm robbery, meaning no weapons were shown.

It's unclear what items were taken. The investigation is active and ongoing.
