7 dogs rescued from 'extremely unsanitary conditions' in DC home

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - D.C. officials say they found seven mixed-breed dogs in "extremely unsanitary conditions" in a Northwest DC home.

Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) Humane Law Enforcement Officers say they executed a search warrant Monday morning after receiving a tip from an anonymous caller reporting dogs barking in a home -- and appeared to have been left alone for days.

Officers said they found the dogs in extremely unsanitary conditions, including large quantities of feces and urine.

Investigators say they determined the dogs were left alone in the home for at least four days.

"Neglecting your pet is a crime," said Chris Schindler, Vice President of Field Services at HRA.

"Keeping dogs in unsanitary conditions and leaving them alone for several days without food or water constitutes cruelty."

The dogs will be in the care of the Humane Rescue Alliance until the case is resolved.

The case remains under investigation, officials say.
