TSA warns about swords in walking canes

- TSA officials say more and more antique cane owners are having those canes confiscated at airport security checkpoints for a hidden danger they may not even know about.

While they look like ordinary canes, there is more than meets the eye. FOX 5’s Tom Fitzgerald got a look at just a few of the increasing number of sword canes that have been confiscated at airports nationwide.

“These are considered artfully concealed weapons, and you can get arrested,” said TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein.

Years ago, it was not uncommon for a cane to have a sword or a knife hidden inside for protection or practicality. Now, the antique canes have become fashionable accessories on eBay and Amazon.

The problem has gotten so bad that the TSA has released a video to urge used cane owners to check to see if their cane has a sword inside.

If you manage to slip one of them past security, you could be arrested.
