Victim's family, police seeking info about fatal stabbing outside of DC police building

- At 31 years old, Antonio Austin was engaged and enjoying life when he was fatally stabbed steps away from the Metropolitan Police Department.

“That's ridiculous and it's insane that the case hasn't been solved by now because it had happened in front of the police department … I don't understand,” said Octavia Nedd. “It's hard losing our only brother.”

Austin’s younger sister has a message for his killers.

“If this was your family or your brother or your son, you would want someone to come forward and say anything,” Nedd said. “You know, he didn't deserve this and he's a human being just like everyone else.”

She contacted FOX 5 after she saw our story about her brother’s murder two weeks ago on July 27.

Police have snapshots of surveillance images of three men who are persons of interest.

“These three men followed Antonio and I guess he turned around and confronted him with his umbrella, and when he did that, they attacked him,” said Nedd. “They stabbed him in his face, in his back, in his leg. He had multiple stab wounds, and the way that they did this, it's hateful.”

Austin’s murder is just one of several open cases across the city.

“Our ability to get information from the community, one way or another, whether it’s from an anonymous tip line or a paid tip line, is one of the best sources we have,” said Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier.

Lanier said the department paid out nearly three quarters of a million dollars to tipsters last year.

All it takes is one case-breaking tip to solve Austin’s murder and a slew of others.

Austin was the only boy of six siblings and a father to two young children.

Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s text tip line by text messaging 50411.
