Capitol Christmas Tree arrives in DC

- The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has arrived in the District! The tree was being unpacked and unloaded from a tractor-trailer Friday before being set in place on the lawn.

Here are some facts about this year’s tree:

  • It is a Lutz spruce from the Chugach National Forest in Alaska.
  • The tree was harvested on October 27, and it is the first Capitol Christmas tree to come from the great state of Alaska.
  • It traveled over 4,000 miles, stopping in 14 communities, before reaching the Capitol.

The tree will be decorated with thousands of ornaments, handcrafted by children and others from Alaska communities.

The lighting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 2.
