5 robberies overnight in DC, avoid being a target

- A number of robberies were reported overnight by the Metropolitan Police Department in northeast and southeast D.C.

The robberies took place in the 200 block of Newcomb Street SE, the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue SE, the 1100 block of Howard Road SE, the 600 block of Pickford Place NE, and the 1300 block of Corbin Place NE, according to officials.
Heather Horsley lives close to Corbin Place and spoke about how cell phone use may be contributing to more robberies.
“You need to pay attention. I see a lot of people with their phones or with their headphones on. They are not paying attention. You can make yourself a target,” she said.
Horsley lives by herself, but she recommends avoiding walking alone or getting a bull dog like hers. Her bull dog is friendly, but Horsley is confident he would defend her if need be.
If you are walking without a dog, put your phone away and stay vigilant of your surroundings to avoid becoming the victim of a robbery.
