Woman found dead in Upper Marlboro home

- A 56-year-old woman was found dead inside her Upper Marlboro home Tuesday morning, Prince George’s County police said.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Andean Goose Way at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to conduct a welfare check and they found the victim, Amanda Jones, suffering from trauma to the body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to family members, Jones was discovered in the basement of the home by the victim's daughter.

But FOX 5 has learned there were several red flags hours before she was found. There was a welfare call at 9:37 p.m. Monday by an acquaintance to Prince George's County police’s non-emergency line to check on Jones. The call was cleared.

Then again the next morning, there was another call at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, just three hours before the gruesome discovery, to check on Jones. That call was cleared as well.

Neighbors told FOX 5 that Jones lived at the home for more than a decade

Back in 2011, Jones' 20-year-old son, who suffered from bipolar disorder, was shot and killed by Prince George's County police in front of her just up the street from their home.

Detectives were investigating the scene throughout the day on Tuesday to try to determine a motive or suspects in the case. Police say a cash reward of up to $25,000 is being offered.
