EXCLUSIVE: Convicted sex offender accused of taking upskirting video in Va. appears in court

A convicted sexual predator who has admitted to spraying his bodily fluid on women in stores in Maryland had his first court hearing for new disturbing sex crimes accusations in Virginia. FOX 5's Emily Miller has more.

- A man who pleaded guilty five years ago in Maryland to spraying his bodily fluid on women in stores appeared in court in Virginia for a hearing on new charges of sexual crimes against him.

Michael Edwards was in Fairfax County court on Tuesday for a case involving a woman who alleges that he took upskirt images of her in a Safeway store in July. He was released on bail.

In August, Edwards was charged with the same crime for taking upskirt images of another woman in another Safeway store in Virginia. He also got out on bail on that charge.

Then in September, according to an affidavit, he became the lead suspect in a police investigation of a woman who said she felt fluid on her back and turned to see a man touching his genitals.

In court on Tuesday, the state asked for a continuance in the case. When we asked why, the deputy commonwealth attorney emailed that:

“Mr. Edwards' case was continued today to November 24, 2015 so that all of his charges could be consolidated and tried together on the same date.”

After Edwards left court, I asked him about his charges. But his defense attorney, Jennifer Raino, said, “We have no comment at this time.”

Fairfax County police said Edwards is still a suspect in the most recent spraying case, but he has not been charged.

Edwards will be back in court in November and will face all the charges at once. Until then, he remains out on bail.
