3 teens arrested in Md. attempted home invasion

- Three teenagers have been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted home invasion, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened in the early morning hours of October 9 at a home in the 8600 block of Billingsley Road in White Plains.

The homeowner said he and his family were asleep when they were awakened by their dog barking and heard loud noises coming from a doorway. As the homeowner opened the front door, he saw a male running into the woods.

When officers arrived, they found damage to the front door and glass window. They also discovered a black duffel bag containing a baseball bat, a crowbar, gloves, duct tape and a rope.

After a search of the area, officers say they found Clayton Perry, 19, of Indian Head walking on Billingsley Road. Perry was not wearing shoes and was in possession of a knife, according to authorities.

Further investigation led to the identities of two other suspects: Steven Coltman, 18, of Indian Head and Japheth Newman, 18, of Waldorf.

Authorities say all three suspects went to the house to commit a robbery, knowing the occupants were at home. It does not appear that the suspects knew the victims.

The suspects are charged with attempted home invasion and attempted burglary.
