3 Marines out of hospital after letter with substance opened at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall

Three Marines who were rushed to the hospital after reportedly falling ill after a letter was opened at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall on Tuesday have been released from the hospital.

Arlington fire officials said 11 people became sick after the envelope containing an unknown substance was opened in a consolidated administration building at around 3:30 p.m.

Three Marines were taken to the hospital and later released at about 10 p.m., officials said.

Hazmat teams responded to the scene following the incident. The letter was removed and the building was screened and cleared, according to a base spokesperson.

The FBI and NCIS are conducting a joint investigation on the incident.
