STERLING, Va. - A Sterling man is accused of aggravated sexual battery of a child at an in-home daycare, and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine if there are more victims.
Michael Kessell, 21, is being held in Florida on a fugitive of justice warrant for charges of two counts of aggravated sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with a juvenile.
On June 1, the victim’s family reported that they thought their child may have had inappropriate contact with a resident inside a home located at 1508 N. Amelia Street in Sterling, where their child attends daycare. Authorities are not releasing the age and gender of the child.
Investigators determined that Kessell was not the primary caregiver, but he did oversee children at times. The daycare was unlicensed, authorities said.
Kessell was taken into custody on Tuesday in Marion County, Florida. He remains held there pending extradition back to Virginia.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at 703-777-0475.
