Maryland man accused of planning to kill US military member and supporting ISIS faces new charges

- A Maryland man accused of planning to kill a U.S. military member in support of ISIS was handed down new charges on Tuesday, according to officials.

Federal prosecutors said 25-year-old Nelash Das of Landover HIils, Maryland, was additionally charged with attempting to murder a federal employee and using a firearm in a crime of violence.

Das, a Bangladesh resident who came to the U.S. in 1995 when he was 4 years old and later became a legal permanent resident, was previously charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS.

Authorities alleged tried to help ISIS from October 2015 to September 2016 and planned to kill a U.S. military member in support of ISIS.

If convicted, Das faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
