Stolen toy poodle found, suspect arrested, DC police say

- D.C. police have found a stolen toy poodle who investigators said was taken from a woman after she was attacked on Thursday.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced “Diva” was recovered and taken to the Washington Humane Society for an examination.

The victim of the attack, Edwina Loftlin, told FOX 5 she was walking her dogs along with her neighbor’s dog, Diva, when two women attacked her in the 5200 block of Fitch Street, Southeast.

Loftlin said she tried to stop the suspects but was beaten by the women, who eventually got Diva out of her hands and fled with the dog. Loftlin said she suffered a black eye, a busted lip and will require surgery on her right knee.

Police said 21-year-old Tanisha Celestina John-Hope of Southeast, D.C. was arrested on Sunday and charged with receiving stolen property.

Diva is now back with her owner and was not hurt by the people who took her.

Police are still searching for the second suspect who is accused of assaulting Loftlin. Detectives said their investigation into the robbery was ongoing and have urged anyone with information to call 202-727-9099.
