Violent DC night leaves 1 dead in string of shootings

- A violent night in D.C. added to the city’s homicide count after a man was killed and several others were injured. Police respond to three separate shooting scenes where investigators say six people were shot over the span of just five hours.

The violence began Monday night when D.C. police say two people were shot just a few blocks from a recreation center in Southeast D.C. One of the victims has died, a source tells FOX 5.

The two men, reportedly in their late teens or early 20s, were wounded in the 1100 block of Eaton Road at around 7:30 p.m. Monday. Both victims were taken to the hospital after the shooting. The surviving victim is in critical condition.

FOX 5's Tisha Lewis reports one of the victims was struck at least 15 times by gunfire.

One woman told Lewis that a football practice was taking place at the recreation center when she heard the gunshots ring out.

FOX 5's Emily Miller said this is the 119th homicide in the city this year, a 49 percent increase compared to this time last year.

Later in the night, two men were shot at around 9:56 p.m. at 46th and G Streets in Southeast D.C. Police say both men were conscious and breathing.

The most recent shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Fort Stevens Drive in the northwest. Officers say two men were shot but are expected to survive.

So far, investigators have no suspects in any of these cases.
