Large tree falls onto car with woman inside

- A woman was rescued Tuesday afternoon after a large tree split in half and fell onto the car she was in.

The tree came down at around 4:30 p.m. on Lincoln Way at the The Fountains of McLean condominium complex, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The woman said she had just pulled into a parking spot near her condo and was on the phone with a friend when the tree above her snapped, fell and surrounded her car like a cage. She was trapped inside her vehicle for about 30 minutes until firefighters were able to cut a path to her passenger side door to get her out.

“It happened so quick and I was just completely stuck,” she said. “Thankfully one of my neighbors, she is a nurse, and I don't know how she heard it because she is a few building back, but she ran forward and she just kind of helped me get through the whole thing.”

The woman was not injured, but extremely shaken up.

“I was scared because the tree kept moving,” she said. “It broke first and then I would say like ten minutes or so went by and it broke again. I was just really lucky. I was lucky that it didn't go through and kill me.”

We are told the tree actually sits on the property of the apartment complex next door, but a lot of the branches hang over the parking lot.

It is unknown when she will be able to get her car back.
