Maryland man sentenced to prison for rape of 12-year-old girl

- A Maryland man has been sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Northwest Washington, U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips announced.

Enrique Carbajal, 25, of Wheaton, Md., pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault of a child in September.

According to court documents, Carbajal and his roommate repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl at her home and several other locations.

Investigators say Carbajal, who was known to the victim's family, contacted the girl without parental permission at a home in Northwest D.C. on March 26. He then sexually assaulted her inside of her parents’ bedroom. Carbajal then drove the girl to the Wheaton home he shared with the other suspect. According to the government’s evidence, Carbajal approached his roommate with the victim and described her as “a piece of new meat,” the roommate then took the girl into a bedroom at the home and sexually assaulted her again.

The victim was then taken to a party in Alexandria, Va. by both of the men and she was once again sexually assaulted by the roommate.

Once released from prison, Carbajal will be on probation for five years, he will have to register as a sex offender, and he will also have to pay $1,000 in restitution.

Carbajal’s roommate will be sentenced next month.
