WASHINGTON - Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old girl in the Petworth neighborhood of northwest D.C.
The incident happened Monday around 8 p.m. at Kansas Avenue and Emerson Street. According to police, the victim was stabbed in the chest. Sources tell FOX 5's Marina Marraco that this is the city's 110th homicide this year.

Officers at the crime scene say there was a verbal altercation between the 17-year-old victim and another teenage female inside of a Metrobus. The confrontation later became physical outside of the bus on the sidewalk.
According to Metro officials, the stabbing happened outside of the bus. D.C. police are handling the investigation. FOX 5 crews on the scene say the Metrobus was being blocked off by crime scene tape as police investigated.
Police are searching for a black female, between the ages of 17 and 19 years old. The, suspect who took off on foot, was described as being 5’5” to 5’6” tall, wearing dark pants and a denim jacket. She was last seen on nearby Farragut Street.
