Teen rescued from lake in Prince William County

- A 17-year-old girl was rescued from a lake in Prince William County Wednesday afternoon.

The girl was pulled from the water at around 2 p.m. at West Beach in Lake Montclair. It is one of three beaches in the development.

The Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department said the girl was with a group of friends having a picnic when she slipped and fell into the neighborhood lake.

The victim was reportedly under water for about two to three minutes.

A witness said no one in the group apparently knew how to swim, but one of them was able to flag down a nearby resident for help. That resident was able to find a group of six construction workers at a home nearby.

The 108-acre manmade lake is typically murky this time of year, which made the rescue a challenge. There was also no lifeguard on duty because the lake is not staffed after Labor Day.

Montclair resident Nancy Croteau said she was able to spot the girl’s pink attire under water and she summoned the group of workers who went into the water and pulled the girl out to safety.

CPR was performed by a Good Samaritan until emergency crews arrived.

Croteau said first responders arrived and performed lifesaving measures on the teenager. She was taken to a Woodbridge hospital and later airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Her condition is unknown at this time, but we have learned that she did regain her breathing and pulse.
