2 pedestrians struck by vehicle in Arlington

Police say two women have been hospitalized after being struck by a driver in Arlington Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened in the 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard at around 3 p.m.. Photos from the scene show the apparent striking vehicle on the sidewalk nearby the State Department Federal Credit Union and Mad Rose Tavern.

Witnesses tell FOX 5's Marina Marraco that the vehicle crossed the intersection on Clarendon Boulevard, took out a light pole, careened through the outdoor seating area of Mad Rose Tavern and struck the pedestrians on the sidewalk.

One of the victims was trapped underneath the vehicle, but firefighters were able to extricate her, according to police. The other victim was able to walk away from the collision with minor injuries.

Police say both victims were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained at the scene and has been taken to the police station to be interviewed. No charges has been filed at this time.
