2 cows stolen from Loudoun County farm
WATERFORD, Va. - A Loudoun County farm owner says someone snuck onto his property in the middle of the night and stole two of his cows.
It happened over the weekend at the farm along Loyalty Road in Waterford, Virginia.
Owner Dave Kay has a message to the thieves: "You didn't just steal some steaks, you stole a part of someone's family."
He raises beef cattle, but says one of the stolen animals was actually a family pet. The 2,000-pound, eight-year-old red Angus is named Daisy. Kay signed a contract with the farm's previous owners happily agreeing to let Daisy live out her natural life. Now he is afraid that won't happen.
"It may be someone who wanted to sell her quick, maybe to a slaughterhouse on the black market," says Kay.
In total, the stolen cows could be worth up to $15,000.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Department says the thieves could face grand larceny charges. They are notifying local cattle sale rings and Kay started a website to raise reward money.
