2-alarm fire breaks out at Sardi's restaurant in Gaithersburg

More than 100 firefighters responded to battle a restaurant fire in Gaithersburg, officials say.

The two-alarm fire broke out Tuesday at around 6:30 p.m. at Sardi's Pollo a la Brasa in the 400 block of North Frederick Avenue (Route 355).

Video posted on Twitter by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer showed flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building. The fire extended along the duct work and through the roof, Piringer says.

All customers and staff members were evacuated from the building. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, according to fire officials.

Several lanes of North Frederick Avenue were blocked off in the area as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
