Community supports Georgetown linebacker who broke his neck

-

A community is coming together in support of the Georgetown linebacker who broke his neck during the first football game of the season last week.

The Hoyas honored Ty Williams at Saturday's game, and FOX 5's Alexandra Limon spoke with his mother who says she's hopeful her son is on the road to recovery. Ty's mother says the junior linebacker fractured a vertebrae in his neck during last week's opening game.

The family is still in Pennsylvania with Ty at the hospital. His mom told us over the phone that the first hours were excruciating. In the worst case scenario, Ty could have been paralyzed. But now, a week later, she says there are good signs he's recovering.

Ty's family says he'll be taken to a rehab facility in Atlanta. It will be expensive, and that's why Ty's cousin has made a GoFundMe account.
