BELTSVILLE, Md. - MARC Train service has resumed service after a commuter train struck a vehicle at a crossing in Prince George’s County.
The crash happened in the 5700 block of Sunnyside Avenue in Beltsville Friday afternoon. According to Prince George's County police, a traffic backup caused the driver of the car to stop on the tracks and the train was unable to stop in time before hitting the vehicle.
Police and fire officials said the driver was extricated from the car and transported to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries. No one on the train was hurt.
MARC Train service on the Camden Line was temporarily suspended between Greenbelt and Muirkirk, but later resumed in the evening. Metro did honor any passengers with MARC Train tickets.
Sunnyside Avenue was closed in both directions but reopened before 8 p.m. Friday.
