WASHINGTON - Eight people have been shot in three separate shooting incidents since Monday evening, police say.
The shooting incidents began on Labor Day and continued overnight and into the Tuesday morning hours.
Officers say five men suffered non-life-threatening injuries during a shooting incident Monday night. Police say this shooting happened around 10 p.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in the Congress Heights neighborhood of southeast D.C.
Police also say that two other men were wounded in a separate incident that happened around 10:35 p.m. on Forrester Street in the southwest. One of the victims died in this shooting while the other remains hospitalized. This homicide, according to detectives, marks the 109th homicide of the year in D.C.
A third shooting happened Tuesday morning in the 5200 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue. Police say the shooting happened shortly before 5 a.m. Officers say an adult male was shot at the location. Investigators say no suspects or motives have been identified.
