16-inch water main break leaves some without water in Hyattsville

A 16-inch water main break in Hyattsville gave crews some difficulty on Saturday afternoon.

The break occurred around 6:20 a.m. at the intersection of 38th and Hamilton streets in Hyattsville. By just after 8 a.m. crews had managed to shut off several valves, which greatly reduced the water flow.

WSSC Water tweeted that they did not expect residents to need to boil their water to make it potable or follow any additional restrictions.

The water main was put in the ground in 1926, according to WSSC Water.

As of 6:30 p.m., crews were still working on valves to shut off the flow of water completely. Once the water stops flowing, they will begin to repair the break.
