Kitten rescued from tracks at Fort Totten Metro station

- Authorities rescued a 6-week-old kitten after it was stuck on the tracks at the Fort Totten Metro station Friday morning.

Washington Human Soceity-Washington Animcal Resue League officers worked with Metro's Emergency Management Team to briefly cut the power to help free the grey and black Tabby kitten lying underneath the third rail of the track for Yellow and Green line trains.

Walt Lanier of Metro’s Emergency Management Team climbed down to the track to grab the kitten and he was passed along to Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League Officer Kyle Heck, who had responded to the scene.

The healthy kitten, who has been named "Totten,” was taken to the Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League’s New York Avenue Adoption Center for evaluation by the medical staff.
